Course Content

ACCR is a four-day instructor-led course that reviews and enforces Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) v1.1 and v2.0 concepts and core protocol functionality. This course will focus on understanding advanced design considerations, traffic flow characteristics, and the effects of various tuning parameters available in the Cisco IOS software designed for CMTS products. The course also demonstrates hardware and Cisco IOS features that add resiliency and security to the cable network, using hands-on lab exercises to reinforce your knowledge.

Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • Discuss DOCSIS specifications and describe basic protocol operation.
  • Describe Advanced PHY benefits available in a DOCSIS 2.0 deployment
  • Discuss the configuration requirements to consider when migrating to a higher-order modulation scheme in the HFC plant
  • Compare and contrast the resource allocation and call flow within PacketCable 1.x DQoS and PacketCable Multimedia (PCMM) deployments
  • Configure and verify operation of high-availability (redundancy) options used by Cisco CMTS platforms
  • Use the Cisco IOS to adjust key parameters that effect functionality and performance in a cable environment
  • Discuss the need and methods for establishing policy to control special traffic types within a cable network
  • Identify and use IOS tools that establish and enforce a security policy

Who Should Attend

This offering is designed for those Cisco Systems Engineers, Cisco Channels Partners, Integrators and Customers, with more than 9 months cable working experience, who are responsible for implementation and verification of DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 multimedia services being deployed on Cisco Systems' Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platforms.

Prerequisites

The recommended prerequisites for this course include a solid understanding of Radio Frequency basics, significant experience with HFC plant operation and strong familiarity verifying proper functionality using Cisco IOS commands. A basic knowledge of DOCSIS principles and operation, security practices and terminology, as well as fundamental IP telephony concepts is required. It is expected that the attendees will have taken the formal 5-day Introduction to Cisco Cable Routers (ICCR) training course or have equivalent working experience.
